Assistive Technology

Technology that helps people with disabilities is called Assistive Technology.  Assistive Technology can often help supplement an individual's abilities to help them achieve the requirements of a job, help them in a classroom, or assist them in independent living or recreational activities.

There are several organizations that can help you identify the appropriate technology necessary for a specific situation.  Here are a few of the major contacts:

The Job Accommodation Network (JAN)
JAN is a free service of the Office of Disability Employment Policy, U.S. Department of Labor  http://janweb.icdi.wvu.edu/

Closing the Gap is a bi-monthly publication, an annual conference.  Their website has thousands of assistive technology products, and has an excellent search tool.
