Program for Loveland small businesses announced

by Chamber of Commerce, Loveland Center for Business Development, and City of Loveland

An Economic Gardening Program to benefit Loveland small businesses is being created and tested as a pilot program.   The concept is a facet of economic development that invests in existing small businesses by providing them with access to strategic information, connections to consumers and connections to other businesses with technology that small businesses may not otherwise have access to or be able to afford.

The program is being sponsored and administered by the Loveland Center for Business Development (LCBD), Loveland Chamber of Commerce and the City of Loveland.

The partnership trio will offer economic gardening services to new and existing businesses within the Loveland municipal limits.  Initially, the trio will test its service offerings to pre-selected clients representing various business sectors, and will then open up the program to the broader business community later this summer.

The purpose of an economic gardening program will be to mine information from high-powered databases, geographic information systems and other information tools to increase the competitiveness of Loveland businesses.

By sitting down and individually helping small business entrepreneurs identify key customers, create strategies and efficiently target their markets, the program is expected to provide important information to the small business community that is typically only accessible to major corporations.  Staff from the City, Chamber and LCBD will comprise the project management teams that work one-on-one with small business clients.

“We all know the story about Hewlett-Packard being started in a garage and growing into a Fortune 500 company.” said Gary Wilson, Community & Strategic Planning Manager for the City of Loveland, “With the Economic Gardening Program, we’ll be working with all qualifying businesses to help advance their sales and improve their market share.

“We also will be on the lookout for local businesses with a high potential for growth, and with our economic gardening services, provide them with strategic information and guidance to overcome the complex issues of growth,” Wilson said.
