Railroad
crossing improvements to begin
Joint projects totaling
about $100,000 will begin next week to improve two railroad crossings on
highly trafficked streets in Loveland. Great Western Railway and the
City of Loveland will install new track crossing materials and asphalt
resulting in smoother and safer crossings on Madison Avenue and on Boyd
Lake Avenue.
Beginning Mon., Oct. 4
through Fri., Oct. 8, Madison Avenue between 8th and 11th
streets will be closed during the crossing improvement project. Detours
will be marked, with Boise Avenue suggested as an alternate route.
Thur., Oct. 7 through Tue.,
Oct. 12, Boyd Lake Avenue (County Road 9) will be closed at the
crossing, located near the intersection of County Road 20E. Detours
will be marked, with Denver Avenue suggested as an alternate route.
At both locations, improved
track crossing materials will be installed, followed by new asphalt
paving on the crossing roadway approaches. A smoother ride will result,
as well as greater safety especially for riders of bicycles and
motorcycles. The crossings will become similar to the improved crossing
at Monroe and 10th St.
The crossing improvement
projects are the result of coordinated planning and shared costs funding
by the City and railroad. The railroad owns and operates the tracks and
right-of-way, while the City owns and operates the street and its
right-of-way. |
