Results:  Citizens are happy with the quality of life in Loveland

v     Greater than 80% of citizens strongly agree or agree that Loveland is performing well on 13 of 24 quality of life statements; 7 of the statements generated positive responses from 90% or more of the citizens

 

v     Quality Development, Good Traffic Flow and Quality Job Opportunities are the only quality of life statements that generated disagree or strongly disagree responses from 30-47% of the citizens

 

Information on respondents based on responses to demographic questions

v     61% have lived in Loveland for more than 10 years

 

v     72% are 45 years old or older  (42% 45-64 yrs old; 30% 65 years or older)

 

v     75% live on the west side of town (41% NW, 34% SW)

 

v     39% work in the Loveland area

 

v     33% are retired or not employed outside the home

 

Significant influences on responses to this survey based on the written comments

v     Development that proposed a second Walmart was on an agenda during the response period.  It significantly impacted responses to shopping opportunities, job opportunities, and quality development. Walmart was specifically mentioned in a majority of the written comments for these quality of life statements.

 

v     Downtown and Highway 34 road construction impacted responses to traffic flows and safe street surfaces.  Construction and the related traffic congestion was the subject of a majority of the streets related quality of life statements.

 

Recurring themes in the written comments for improvements

v     Desire for more traffic control related to speeding and running red lights

 

v     Need more higher paying jobs in the community (too many retail and lower-end service jobs)

 

v     Housing in new developments too dense—too many developments approved—growth concerns

 

v     Desire to attract business to downtown

 

v     Want card board recycling back

 

v     Customers, particularly the elderly, miss 40 cent bags/stamps

 

v     Concern with regard to managing traffic during construction

 

v     Want better timed lights and more left turn lanes

 

v     Need to fix potholes/rough ride over manhole covers that have sunken

 

v     Need more youth activities targeted at teens

 

v     Don’t really know how to get involved in government

 

v     Perception that public input doesn’t really matter
