Biography

Carol moved to Loveland in 2004 and immediately became active having served prior to her election in 2007 to Loveland City Council, Ward II,  on the Loveland Open Lands Advisory Commission for two years; having served on the initial “Engaging Loveland” development committee and the Comprehensive Master Plan Update Implementation Advisory Committee; having attended the Loveland Citizen’s Police Academy and 80% of the City Council meetings the previous 3 years before her election; and as a member of the Downtown Loveland Association.  An avid hiker and biker, she is formerly president of the Loveland Mountain Club.

Carol served on the Golden City Council in the at-large seat from 1996-2000, and as mayor pro tem from 1998-2000.  As a community volunteer she served for  15 years in Golden including the Local Liquor Licensing Authority, Planning Commission, Urban Renewal Authority, Utility Rate Structure Board,  chair of Parks and Recreation Advisory Board and several city and county-wide political campaigns. She also served on the Committee to Choose the City Manager and as chair of a political action committee, Golden Good Government League.  She served as an officer and legal counsel of several homeowner associations and as a board member of two non-profits serving children.  She looks to bring that experience and skill to serve the citizens of Loveland.

Having lived in Colorado 33 of the last 38 years, Carol is originally from the Chicago area graduating from Western Illinois University with a BA in political science education and she has a law degree from University of Denver.  Professionally, in private law practice she has emphasized elder law particularly estate planning, estate administration, real estate and small business.  She has served for two years on the “Senior Law Day” Committee of the Larimer County Bar Association. As in-house corporate counsel at K N Energy (now Kinder Morgan), she was responsible for all operations and litigation matters in connection with the company’s natural gas storage, local gas distribution and the underground coal mine.  After twenty years in law, she changed her career direction to using her legal skills to help health care and higher education non-profits cultivate and solicit major and planned gifts.  After responsibilities as VP of Development for Banner Health in Phoenix and as Director of Planned and Major Gifts for Banner McKee in Loveland and Thunderbird School of Global Management in Glendale, Arizona, she is currently self-employed.

She is single, with a 33 year old son, Cliff, and a 30 year old daughter, Kristin, who is a high angle rescue firefighter with the City of Colorado Springs.  Carol is a strong supporter of the Downtown’s revitalization and spent her 15 years of community work in Golden working to transform Golden’s downtown to the vibrant, healthy, tourist and citizen attraction it is today.  In furtherance of that goal she has served on the Loveland Downtown Team, Chamber of Commerce board of directors, Engaging Loveland board of directors and on the mayor’s Economic Development Sub-Committee.

A promoter of the successful lodging tax, Carol campaigned with Building a Better Loveland to assure its passage in 2009.  Carol also serves as City Council liaison to the Community Marketing Commission, the Affordable Housing Commission, and the Historic Preservation Board.  A strong supporter of transportation, a healthy tax base, and a forward-looking infrastructure particularly in water, she is looking to collaborate in retaining and improving Loveland’s quality of life.
