elected on November 6, 2007 for a four-year term.
Cecil was elected
Mayor for a two-year term on November 3, 2009. Cecil Gutierrez's term will
expire in November, 2011.

Biography
Cecil Gutierrez is a 31-year resident of
Loveland, a veteran, educator, school administrator, and business-person. He
has raised a family in Loveland, completed two distinguished careers, and
continues to be active in the community. He moved to Loveland in 1976 to
become Director of Bands at the “new” Thompson Valley High School. Cecil
retired in 1999 as Director of Bands at Loveland High School, culminating a
29 year career in music education. A graduate of Western State College in
Gunnison, Mr. Gutierrez also received a Masters Degree at Colorado State
University.
During twenty nine years as an
educator, Cecil served as President of the Thompson Education Association,
President of The Northeast Uniserv Unit of the Colorado Education
Association, and Chair of the Instrumental Affairs Council of the Colorado
Music Educator’s Association. Cecil continues to volunteer as a music
adjudicator for concert and marching festivals, as a performance clinician,
and mentor to young band directors.
Cecil brings planning and
decision-making skills to the Loveland City Council gained through his
military service. He served nearly twenty-seven years in the Army on Active
Duty, and in the Reserves, and National Guard in a variety of leadership,
staff, and command positions rising to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer. A
good part of Cecil’s military career included service in the Communications
and Military Intelligence fields. The last ten years were spent as the
Commander and Conductor of the 101st Army Band of the Colorado National
Guard.
Since retiring as band director
at Loveland High School, Cecil has held the position of Group Sales
Coordinator at Carlson Wagonlit Travel where he applies his organizational
skills to provide groups with quality educational tour and travel
experiences.
Cecil’s wife, Kay, is an artist
and retired Thompson School District art teacher. Cecil and Kay are proud of
their children. Their daughter Ginia, a graduate of Thompson Valley High
School and Adams State College, is a teacher and assistant principal at
Strasburg, Colorado High School. Son, Joel, a graduate of Loveland High
School and Colorado State University is an archaeologist in Phoenix,
Arizona. Their granddaughter Liria is an eighth grader at Strasburg Middle
School. Cecil’s hobbies include international travel, fishing, and Lionel
model railroading.
