Map Joan Shaffer
is a fifth generation Pacific Northwestern, born in Bremerton, Washington.
Before moving to Loveland, Joan lived and worked in Boulder County and
Ithaca, New York. She has made her career in both the private and public
non-profit sectors having worked in financial and business management from
small start-up organizations to large, centuries-old institutions.
In 2006, Joan established Silver
Lining Strategies, LLC, a Loveland-based public relations firm providing
services to nonprofit and community organizations statewide.
Joan has been active in public
service activities representing arts and culture, health care services,
agriculture interests, and higher education throughout her adult life. In
2007 she was a lead campaign organizer for Question 2C, a citizens’
initiative to bring campaign finance reform to the City of Loveland
elections through a Charter amendment that passed with the support of nearly
70 percent of the voters.
As an advocate for development
of Downtown Loveland and the community core (US 287 and US 34 Highways),
arts and cultural services, and balanced transportation planning, Joan has
been seated as a council liaison on the Transportation Advisory Board and as
an alternate on the Visual Arts Commission. She has also been appointed to
serve as the council representative on the Housing Authority of the City of
Loveland, one of several representatives on the Loveland Downtown Team, and
as an alternate on the Northern Front Range Metropolitan Planning
Organization (NFR MPO).
Joan enjoys the great Colorado
outdoors, reading, and travel. She is a skilled equestrian and dog trainer,
although she keeps no critters at this time.
Joan is married to Loveland
attorney, Mark R. Shaffer. Together they enjoy his children, Katherine and
James, and grandchildren, Allison and Sean, all of Maryland. |
