The Training Battalion is responsible for coordinating, facilitating and managing all aspects of our Fire-Rescue Training and certification processes. The Training Battalion is staffed by a Battalion Chief on a three year rotational basis. The Battalion Chief is supported by three Captains that perform the duties of Shift Training / Certification Officers. The Fire Training Facility is located at 100 East Fire Engine Red Street in central Loveland. The facility includes a burn building for live structural fire evolutions, a five story tower for high rise training, a two story smoke house for basic skills training and a large building collapse rubble pile that simulations heavy / technical rescue situations. Other live fire props include propane (flammable gas) fires, vehicle fires, flashover/fire behavior simulators and a positive pressure fire attack building. The classroom facilities include a large room that can hold up to 60 people and a smaller room designed for classes of approximately 18 students. These classrooms are supplemented by training rooms at Fire Station 1 and Fire Station 6 that are used for company level training classes.

All LFRA personnel are certified to various levels of firefighter and officer testing / certifications of the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control. These certifications include but are not limited to, Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Fire Instructor I, Fire Officer I, Fire Officer II, Driver Operator Pumper, Driver Operator Aerial, Hazardous Materials Operations and Hazardous Materials Technician. These certifications have been accredited by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress.

All Chief Officers, Company Officers and Acting Company Officers are also certified in the Blue Card Hazard Zone Management System. LFRA was one of the first departments in Colorado to implement the Blue Card certification Program which requires 50 hours of online instruction followed by 24 hours of fireground computer simulations. LFRA has been designated the Colorado Hub for Blue Card Training allowing us to host Train the Trainer classes. LFRA’s Command Training Center and Blue Card Instructional Staff facilitated twelve Blue Card Certification Classes in 2012.
