Report a Street Light Out
  • Have a land line telephone or cell phone for communication during a power outage which renders cordless telephones useless.
  • If you are on oxygen, have full spare tanks or portable units with extra charged batteries.
  • Be sure you have emergency supplies stocked such as flashlights, batteries, etc. in case of a power outage.
  • Sign up for reverse 911 calls for any type of emergency, not just a power outage. Register through LETA at www.leta911.org or call (970) 962-2170. NOTE – Not all emergencies and power outages are notified through LETA.
  • Tree pruning helps prevent power outages during storms, which often cause trees and branches to fall into power lines.

For customers who have a severe medical condition and depend on electricity to power life support equipment, an outage can present a hardship. We advise those customers to plan ahead and be prepared in the event of an outage. We recommend that you consider a generator, an alternate form of power, make advanced arrangements to get to a facility that has backup generation or have an alternate location such as a friend or family home you can temporarily relocate to during an outage. Power must be restored in a particular manner and we do not have the capability of guaranteeing certain customers will be first to have their power restored.

Reporting an Outage

  1. Breaker BoxCheck to see if others are without power. If you are the only one without electricity, check your circuit breaker panel or fuse box. Note that in some homes or buildings, the main breaker is located near the electric meter. If the breakers are in the “on” position or the fuses are not burned out, you will need to call an electrician.
  2. If others are without power, call Loveland Water and Power. When you call, be prepared to give your:
    • Name
    • Address
    • Telephone Number
    • And any information about the power outage.

If the phone is busy, it is reasonable to assume that others are reporting the outage. Once you have reported an outage, please know that crews are working on the problem. In a major outage, duplicate calls jam the busy phone lines and prevent us from receiving critical storm damage information to help crews quickly repair the problem.

Know your power lines. If your service line has been disconnected (often due to trees and branches falling on the lines), check the equipment on your house. You may have to hire an electrician to repair the weatherhead or metermast before Utility Crews will reconnect service.

 During an Outage

How Power is Restored:

Tips:

  • Turn off appliances that were running before the outage. This protects the motor and makes it easier for crews to restore power.
  • Turn off the air-conditioning system during hot weather.
  • Lower the thermostat to protect the furnace motor during cold weather.
  • Do not open your refrigerator door.
  • Do not open your freezer during a power outage. You can expect that food stored in a freezer will probably stay frozen for 24 hours.
  • Do not use a natural gas range or burn charcoal for heat. Both fuels give off dangerous fumes.
  • Be aware that a fireplace may pull more warm air from a house than it gives out.
