2006 City of Loveland Fire Hydrant Flushing
The City of
Loveland Water Department will begin the annual fire hydrant flushing
program April 24. Fire hydrants are flushed every year in the early
spring.
Flushing
achieves three objectives for the water department; it helps to keep the
interior of the pipes clean, helps to maintain excellent water quality
and it gives us a chance to check the hydrants to make sure they are
operating properly if needed to fight a fire.
During the
flushing process it is possible that some discolored water may become
evident from building faucets. This should clear up in a few hours.
Although the water may be discolored, it is safe to drink; chlorine
residuals at each hydrant are checked as it is flushed.
It is
suggested that laundry not be washed on the day the flushing in specific
neighborhoods because the discolored water could stain laundry.
The
flushing program will start on the west side of Loveland and work
eastward. Each area of town will be notified before the flushing
begins.
The City of
Loveland takes pride in providing the best quality drinking water
available. For more information about the fire hydrant flushing program
