Centennial Park Groundbreaking Ceremony
The ground breaking
ceremony for the first phase of the Loveland Youth Sports Park
projects took place on Tuesday, July 13th at Centennial Park in
Loveland, Colorado. Ceremonies started at 11:00 am to initiate
the renovation of the baseball fields and facilities at Centennial
Park. Loveland Mayor, Larry Walsh, City Council and the President
of the Loveland Baseball Association participated.
Centennial Park was developed as
a community park on top of an abandoned City landfill in the
mid-1970’s. Construction of the original baseball/softball
complex was accomplished using volunteer labor and donations from
the Loveland Baseball Association as well as the City of Loveland
and other donors and community groups. The original five fields
have served as host to thousands of Loveland’s youth over the past
28 years.
The Centennial Park ball field
renovation project will include a total re-build of Field #4, new
backstops and dugouts on several fields, a new rest
room/maintenance building with covered shelter, an elevated core
area for improved spectator viewing, refurbished bleachers and new
seating areas, turf and irrigation replacement, landscaping and
fencing improvements, and a new entryway. The Centennial
renovation project is scheduled to take 9 months of construction
and should be complete for spring baseball in 2005.

Design services are being
provided by EDAW, Inc. of Fort Collins with construction
management/general contractor services provided by Sinnett
Builders of Fort Collins.
Phase II of the Youth Sports Park
project will be the development of a 77 acre multi-use park for
soccer, football, lacrosse, in-line skating, skate boarding, etc.
in the east portion of the City adjacent to Boyd Lake Avenue.
Phase III of the project will be
construction of 3-4 softball/baseball fields at Barnes Park in the
southern end of the City. Total project costs for all three
phases of the Youth Sports project are projected in excess of $10
million, with completion of all phases by 2007.
