In order to be eligible for the Police Officer position, all candidates must meet the following minimum requirements by the date of hire:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age

  • Must be Post Certified

  • Must be able to legally possess/carry a firearm

  • Must possess a valid Colorado driver's license

 

A comprehensive resume must accompany the application. Do not submit training certificates or letters of reference at this time. You must include your email address if you have one. If you are not a U.S. citizen, you must provide proof of your ability to be approved to work in the U.S. Applications will not be accepted unless there is a posted job announcement.

Selection Process:

 

Upon receipt of your application and resume for an advertised position, candidates are sent a packet of information that outlines each step of the selection process including tentative dates and times.

 

The selection process consists of:

  • Physical fitness test

  • Situational response test; video format

  • Report writing test

  • Reading test

  • Oral board interviews

  • Background investigation

  • Physical examination

  • Polygraph examination

  • Drug screening

  • Psychological screening

Hiring:

 

    The sample hiring forms attached to this information packet outline conditions for employment with the LPD. Examine them. If you are not able to abide by or agree with the conditions for hiring or employment, do not apply.

 

    A complete and somewhat intrusive background investigation is part of the hiring process. Applicants must be very up-front and honest regarding their personal and professional history. The information on all documents that are completed as a part of the selection/hiring process will be examined and researched as part of the background investigation. Candidates are given the opportunity to make corrections and update information prior to the start of the selection process. If intentional omissions or misleading / falsified information is detected, it may be grounds for disqualification from the process. The background investigation examines:

- Criminal History/Involvement with Illegal Drugs

- Past Employment Performance

- Residential History

- Military Records

- Financial History

- Civil Court Records

- Personal References

- Education/Campus Disciplinary records

    The use of narcotics and dangerous drugs as defined in CRS 12-22-301 (16), 12-22-403 (4), (5a), (13), or (14) beyond experimentation, can be grounds for disqualification.  This does not exclude persons involved in clinical research as defined in CRS 12-22-403 (3), pursuant to section 12-22-408.  Immediate disqualification can result from:

  1. Felony conviction for dispensing of dangerous, narcotic drugs, or steroids.

  2. Use of narcotic or dangerous drugs without a doctor’s prescription.

  3. Undetected drug activity, including manufacturing, cultivating, possession, dispensing, or consumption, still prosecutable as a felony under the statute of limitations in the State of Colorado or Federal criminal justice system.

  4. Any illegal involvement with illegal drugs, including steroids, within the three years prior to application.
