I
was involved in a traffic accident and left the scene.
Can I still make a report?
A
police investigation cannot be completed as the vehicles and
accident scene are gone. Accidents in which the drivers leave the scene are
primarily a civil matter of financial liability.
However, if you exchanged information with the other driver(s) and
later found the information you were given was false, we might want
to have an officer speak with you.
If
you need a report for insurance purposes or another reason, a cold
accident report can be completed. This report indicates that no
investigation was completed. In order to complete a cold
accident report, you will need to come to the Loveland Police
Department Records Unit and complete the form.
Please note that the announcement of an accident alert made in
Larimer County does not pertain to accidents occurring within the

What do I do about an Email I received asking
for money ("Nigerian Scam")?
Nobody polices the Internet. Anytime someone makes an offer of money
for doing nothing, it is a scam. The person who initiates contact
with such a deal is preying upon the human nature of "instant
wealth". Often the perpetrator identifies themselves as a
businessman, attorney or government official. Reading closely will
usually reveal information that the perpetrator has illegally come
into some large amount of money themselves. The trend has recently
grown to offering phone numbers for a more personal contact. The
suspect may sound very professional and friendly during phone
conversation and sometimes several phone contacts are made to
procure the trust of the targeted person. Be assured that the
suspect only wants your bank account number to withdraw all the
funds in it. More often than not, the suspect is in another country
that may not have an extradition treaty with America for Theft. When
the Nigerian equivalent of our FBI investigated scams in that
country, they found that several high ranking government officials
were involved. The best thing to do if you receive one of these
e-mails is to delete it and forget it.
