Citizens Police Academy

The Loveland Police Department, like many of its counterparts across the Nation, works continually to maintain and improve its service delivery to the community it serves.  Public trust and confidence in the Police Department are two primary measures of the Agency’s success in its mission of public safety.

In these difficult financial times it is especially important for the Police to persistently assess its efficiency and effectiveness in addressing the public safety concerns of the citizens of Loveland.  Partnerships with the members of the community is one of the primary strategies embraced by the Police Department to identify, address, and resolve the concerns of the community relative to its own safety, security, and quality of life.

The Loveland Police Department is pleased to announce its 2010 Citizens’ Police Academy will begin its ten week journey on Thursday, September 9, 2010.  The Academy meets each Thursday evening from 6:30-9:30 p.m. in the Police Institute at 810 East Tenth Street. During this ten week session, members of the Police Department and its partner criminal justice agencies will present information regarding a variety of topics including traffic and DUI enforcement, Criminal Investigations, Gang activity, K-9’s, Bomb Disposal, and Use of Force.

The Citizens’ Police Academy is a major component of the Police Department’s effort to inform and support the public surrounding its efforts to problem solve within the community.  The sessions are intended to be an interactive engagement among police employees and community members to enhance understanding and support for one another’s role in providing and maintaining the safety and quality of life in the City of Loveland.

Due to the adult content of some of the presentations, we ask that participants: be eighteen years of age and older, live, work or volunteer in the City of Loveland, have no felony convictions, no significant or recent misdemeanor convictions, are willing to complete a Waiver of Liability and commit to attend each of the ten week sessions.  The application deadline is August 27th. Please click below for the application or contact Lieutenant Tim Brown (962-2214) for more information.
