ADSI defines a common set of interfaces that abstract the properties and methods of directory service objects common to diverse environments, including LDAP-compliant services such as Membership Directory and NTDS. (Commerce Server; P&M)

Active Server Pages (ASP)
A server-side scripting environment that is used to create and run interactive, high-performance Web server applications, such as the Commerce Server sample sites. Active User Object (AUO)
A COM object called Membership.userobjects that aggregates user properties from multiple Active Directory Service (ADS) property storage mechanisms into a single unified collection (name space). Applications can access a user's properties via AUO without awareness of the actual storage location of the properties, or the user identification mechanism for that provider. The AUO is used in an ASP file as if it were a simple ADS provider, and it transparently handles the user object retrieval across multiple providers. (Commerce Server; P&M)
