Make a difference without feeling a difference.

Partnering with Power is a free and voluntary program that helps manage the high demand for electricity during summer months.

Every summer, Loveland has a few extremely hot days when air conditioners across the city are working extra hard to keep buildings cool.  This adds stress to our electric system.  Partnering with Power helps us address issues created by these peaks in electricity demand.  This program helps Loveland Water & Power, your community Utility provide:

  • Increase the reliability of summertime electricity transmission, helping to prevent brown and black outs

  • Delay or reduce the need to build or expand power plants

  • Preserve the environment by reducing pollution and conserving resources

  • Maintain electricity rates in our community competitive

How does the program work?

Once you enroll, a Loveland Water & Power Department employee will install a small remote-controlled device, or DCU, on the outside of your air conditioner.

When activated, the device will cycle off your central air conditioning compressor for a small percentage of the time it would normally run.  The cycling device will not harm your air conditioner nor void its warranty.  Your fan will continue to circulate cooled air to maintain your building's comfort.

The device will be activated a maximum of 20 times during the weekday hours between 12 p.m. and 7 p.m. for the summer months of May through September.  We will not cycle your air conditioner on weekends or holidays.

The difference in your building may be a minimal 1 to 2 degrees in temperature.  If you ever feel that using the device has made your building uncomfortable, please let us know immediately and we will resolve the issue.  If you are still unsatisfied with the program, you can opt out at anytime.

Dave Schneider, member of the Loveland Utility Commission and long-time resident,  said, “Partnering with Power is a community effort that combines enlightened self-interest, community cooperation, and technology in a painless way. I like that.”  During the summer of 2009, 3348 participants helped save $138,333 in demand charges.  So, whether you are a homeowner or business owner now is the time to join your Loveland community in the Partnering with Power program.  It's an excellent way for you to make a difference without feeling a difference!
